Handmade in America goes to Almaty, Kiev and Moscow with Arts-Marketplace

Frequently Asked Questions

What is it?
Handmade in America is a stand-alone pavilion at the Turkel Fuarcilik Leather, Fur, Fashion and Accessories Shows in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Kiev, Ukraine and Moscow Russia.

When is it?
The Almaty show is scheduled for August 20-22 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) 2009, the Kiev Expo Plaza event is from September 3-5, 2009 and Moscow is slated for 8,9 and 10 of April 2010.

Who is there?
All Turkel Fuarcilik shows are open to the buying public and the wholesale trade.

What's in it for me?
Turkel Fuarcilik representatives have been very excited by this idea as it represents an incredibly newsworthy story in all three cities. The presence of American craftsmanship is exciting and purchases will certainly be highly coveted. The expenses of travel and exhibiting are easily offset by the relative value that your work represents against the Euro.

How much does it cost and what do I get for my money?
Participating artists purchase a minimum of 10 (approximately the size of the American 10x10), 15 or 20 square meters

133Euros per sq. meter in Almaty
1770Euros per sq. meter in Kiev
1950Euros per sq, meter in Moscow

Included in your purchase price of the walk-in booth space are hardwalls, lights, racks, tables, chairs, shared display cases and one piece as part of a group fashion show.

How do I get there and much does that cost?
Are any of you adept at negotiating group rates? Travel to Almaty is roughly 2000USD at current rates. Hotels are available in a variety of price ranges and we will find a group discount as soon as we know how many people are coming. If there are enough interested participants, we will plan a chartered bus tour from Almaty to Kiev so that we don't have to travel back and forth between the Kiev and Almaty shows.

How do I bring my goods into the country?
Turkel Fuarcilik has an excellent in-house brokerage service available for an added fee or you are welcome to use your own broker. Machteld and I are using the ATA CARNET issued by the United States Council for International Business which circumvents the broker altogether <www.merchandisepassport.org> but that means you have to take it on the plane yourself and ship as cargo. We have used this in Canada and will use it again for Germany in October and share our experience.

How do I commit?
Please send an e-mail to johan@iotawestenburg.com and I will send you a contract.
